Connecting Quality and Value

After 20 years of working in healthcare, I noticed two major issues: a real disconnect between cost and quality, and an increase in time independent musculoskeletal physicians were required to spend on administrative duties rather than their patients and patient outcomes.

When I looked into the disconnect between cost and quality, I noticed that other business segments or industries across our country weren’t struggling to express their value proposition. I noticed the advances the world had made in data integration and recognized that data analytics could help independent musculoskeletal physicians as the Industry moved toward a value-based care model.

 Similarly, when looking at the increased time independent physicians spent running their businesses, I saw a gap in specialized and customized support. Unlike in large healthcare systems, administrative duties often fall on independent physicians, and that extra time spent on administrative duties takes away from their time with patients.

 The intersection of these issues led me to create MPOWERHealth. My previous experience in healthcare provided me an intimate look at musculoskeletal physicians. So I founded MPOWERHealth with a vision to create an infrastructure to support independent musculoskeletal physicians and empower them to thrive in a value-based world.

 It’s a common misconception among providers that value-based care and its goals to lower cost ultimately mean those providers will be less profitable. The reality is in a value-based world, under the proper models, physicians are incentivized to take on more responsibility with the outcomes of care. Providers are also willing to pay more for higher levels of care if it can be measured and reported on.

 At MPOWERHealth, our purpose is to help independent musculoskeletal practices thrive while having the autonomy to make many of their own decisions. We look to provide the support and the infrastructure so that physicians can make their own choices.

 Using data integration and analytics, we help independent physicians connect the dots linking cost and quality to ultimately better demonstrate the value they provide to patients.
